  • Booklist Reviews : Booklist Reviews 2011 October #1
In the newest Pretty Little Liars book, Aria, Hanna, Emily, and Spencer return in a flurry of designer labels, pursued by uncertainties regarding Ali's death. Ali, however, seems to be watching, and she threateningly texts each of them. In this ninth episode of the ongoing saga of bad girls running amok, we watch Emily gain and lose a new friend, Spencer almost gain and then lose a new stepbrother, Aria take on an exchange student who threatens to move in on her longtime boyfriend, and Hanna pay a big bribe after she falls into the clutches of a predatory photographer. You know, everyday stuff. Copyright 2011 Booklist Reviews.
  • Horn Book Guide Reviews : Horn Book Guide Reviews 2012 Spring
Aria, Spencer, Hanna, and Emily are back and hiding a secret from a spring break trip. Of course, an all-knowing (different?) "A" threatens to expose them. Twisted focuses on the PLL's crime, while Ruthless identifies a possible "A." The twists are familiar--it's now expected that nothing is as it appears--but Shepard still delivers conclusions that makes readers want more. [Review covers these Pretty Little Liars titles: Ruthless and Twisted.]
  • Voice of Youth Advocates Reviews : VOYA Reviews 2011 October
This volume details the exploits of the four main characters, Aria, Spencer, Hanna and Emily, adding to each girl's latest exploit, and detailing how this furthers their particular involvement in the ongoing saga of what really happened to Alison DiLaurentis. Did she actually survive two fires and a deadly fall? Could she really be alive and could she truly be the "A" that has been stalking, texting, and scaring the life out of these four "pretty little liars?" From their privileged lives in the magnificent mansions of Rosewood, Pennsylvania, the four continue to add new escapades to their previous misconduct. Aria finds her boyfriend Noel's family is hosting an exchange student from Finland, gorgeous Klaudia Huusko. Spencer's involvement is more-than-friendly with her new step brother. Hanna's dad's campaign may be destroyed by her shocking photo shoot and Emily's new friend's father wants more than a simple thank you for helping her acquire a swim scholarship. Shepard does a fine job of writing an intriguing tale full of provocative exploits and adventure. For those concerned, there is a lot of "bad" behavior, the F word, sexual activity, stealing and lying. Those are the basis for the series, as the title indicates. The protagonists stay in character, keep the reader wondering what else could possibly happen and hoping that just once they will make a strong choice and be able to outsmart the evil "A." It is a must for any library that has been carrying the series. It will not disappoint the fans.—Laura Canales 3Q 4P J S Copyright 2011 Voya Reviews.
