Summary: Contains four films about a computer hacker who realizes the world is an elaborate deception created by all-powerful machines of artificial intelligence. In Matrix, in an anti-utopian future, the "real" world is a computer construct, created by an all-powerful artificial intelligence. A small group of humans has found a way out of the construct and is now fighting for the future of the human race. In Matrix reloaded, Neo, Trinity, and Morpheus continue to lead the revolt against the Machine Army. In their quest to save the human race from extinction, they gain greater insight into the construction of The Matrix and Neo's pivotal role in the fate of mankind. In Matrix revolutions, Neo remains unconscious in the real world, caught in a mysterious subway station that lies between the machine world and the matrix. Bane is still a conduit for Agent Smith, who continues to grow more out of control. Meanwhile, the sentinels are coming dangerously close to Zion. Neo, after meeting The Oracle, decides he must leave Zion and go for the machine mainframe. The Animatrix is a collection of nine animated short films, detailing the backstory of the "Matrix" universe, and the original war between man and machines which led to the creation of the Matrix.

Animatrix: Four of the films were originally released on the Animatrix official website; one (Final Flight of the Osiris) was shown in cinemas with the film Dreamcatcher in 2003. The others first appeared with the DVD release of all nine shorts in 2003.
