Summary:

The way I spent the end of the world: In Bucharest in 1989, the last year of Ceaușescu's dictatorship, Eva, aged seventeen, lives with her parents and her seven-year-old brother Lalalilu. One day at school, Eva and her boyfriend accidentally break a bust of Ceaușescu. They are forced to confess their crime before a disciplinary committee. Eva is expelled from school and transferred to a reformatory establishment. There she meets Andrei and decides to escape Romania with him. Lalalilu is more and more convinced that Ceaușescu is the main reason for Eva's decision to leave. So, with his friends from school, he devises a plan to kill the dictator.

Raja: Explores the relationship between a wealthy middle-aged Frenchman and a nineteen-year-old orphaned Moroccan girl in contemporary Marrakech. Shows how disparities in race, economic status, and language complicate the older man's pursuit of the younger girl.

The bothersome man: Andreas arrives in a strange city with no memory of how he got there. He is presented with a job and an apartment, but before long, Andreas notices that something is wrong. The people around him seem cut off from any real emotion and communicate only in superficialities. He makes an attempt to escape from the city, but he discovers there is no way out. Andreas meets a man who has found a crack in a wall in his cellar. Beautiful music streams out from the crack, but from where?

The island: Tells a parable about faith and salvation through the story of a monk in a small Russian Orthodox monastery on an island in Northern Russia. Although the monk behaves bizarrely and confuses his fellow monks, he is believed by visitors to the island to have the power to heal, exorcise demons, and foretell the future. The monk, however, considers himself unworthy because of a sin he committed in his youth.
